Emergency Snow removal:

We are dispatching two man crews into Northern VA to remove the snow from the bottom 3-5’ of the roof edge. At the same time we put snow and ice melt in the gutters to promote the gutters thawing out as quickly as possible. The chemical snow melt is biodegradable and should not stain the roof shingles. The most difficult part of getting this work done is getting to you (getting our trucks down your street and our long ladders up to your hours and against the roof edge).

Ice dams are created as the warm air rises through the peak of the roof and melts the snow. Snow and ice pile up on the bottom edge of the roof where it is coldest. As the melted snow and ice pile up on the bottom edge of the roof, the very best resolve is to clear the bottom 2’-3’ of snow off of the roof and try to expose the ice dam to the sunlight. Until we arrive to remove the snow and ice we suggest cooling off the rooms effected by turning down the thermostat, cracking a window or running a fan to cool off the area as quickly as possible.

If a gutter is hanging off the home or ready to fall, it should be removed so that it does not cause more damage to windows, shutters or siding.
